Opaekaa Falls
Opaekaa Falls is a waterfall on Kauai that cascades down into a hidden pool. Opaekaa Falls is lacey
and is easily Kauai’s most accessible major waterfall.
Opaekaa Falls is located about 2 miles up Kuamoo Road (Route 580) from Hwy. 56. Signs
clearly point to the lookout on the right. ‘O-paeka‘a means
“rolling shrimp,” which were once abundant in the stream. Walk
uphill and across the road-there is another view of the Wailua river
valley and interior plains beyond.
| Here are a few photos of Opaekaa Falls taken with my Nikon D70, and I will also give you a few pointers. While you are traveling and/or on vacation, sometimes things start looking alike. I like to take a picture of the official sign, or at least a sign that is around the area I am in. That way, when I am then going through the pics, I can see where I have been by the pictures I took. One more hint-if you are shooting digital photos it will not cost you money for film. So, I shoot a sign on the way in, then I on the way out. That "frames" the scene so I know where the beginning and end is.

| Then There is the other way. I have a tendency to shoot everything of interest from both angles. Later, I am able to go back to my computer and have the photos I need to work with in Photoshop. | | (b) |
| Notice the color difference? I put the Nikon D70 on auto for the one directly above (b), and I set my Nikon D70 to +2 EV for the shot (a). On Kauai, you should test a few shots before you go on your daily adventures. If you set your camera to very bright greens, you will be able to photograph about anything on the island. After all, it is the Garden Island.
