 Food: Bali Hai

Places to eatSweeping views of Hanalei Bay and Na Pali Coast are the highlight at this open-air restaurant -- though it can be a bit too exposed to winter winds and rain (bring a jacket). Specialties include the Kaua'i-onion soup topped with melted provolone cheese; the Namolokama Platter. a combo of watermelon-barbecued pork ribs. chicken skewers. and tiger prawns with sweet chili sauce; and pan-seared fresh fish served over a crispy crab cake. Breakfast includes poi pancakes. fried taro. and eggs; lunch is a mix of salads and sandwiches. The menu descriptions sound good. but the food lacks refinement. making it hard to justify prices that are among the highest on the island. If you arrive before sunset. however. the view makes it worth it. AE. D. DC. MC. V.
