One of Kauai's most splendid examples of kamaaina architecture, Gaylord's is the anchor of a 1930s plantation manager's estate on a 1,700-acre sugar plantation. You'll enter a complex of shops, galleries, and a living room of Hawaiian artifacts and period furniture. The private dining room has a lavish table, always elegantly set as if Queen Liliuokalani were expected at any minute; another room accommodates private parties. The main dining room, which winds around a flagstone courtyard overlooking rolling lawns and purple mountains, serves American classics (New York steak, rack of lamb, prime rib) along with pasta, fresh seafood, and lavish desserts. The ambience, historic surroundings, and soothing views from the terrace make Gaylord's a special spot for lunch -- salads, soups, fresh fish, Oliver Shagnasty's signature baby back ribs, burgers, sandwiches, and lighter fare predominate. Daily specials include international dishes such as kalua pork and Mexican fajitas, and fresh island fish in various cross-cultural preparations.
Review for Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai on February 07, 2008
I was able to see a light shining through one of the windows from Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai. It turned out that the window light was coming from one the many shops inside of Gaylord’s restaurant on Kauai. I came to find out later that these shops sell miscellaneous souvenirs, jewelry, and other items that might be of interest to people dining inside of Gaylord’s on Kauai. I was surprised to see that there were so many different shops that sold mainly jewelry, and I was also surprised that Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai could house so many shops inside its walls. It really doesn’t seem possible that all of these shops are able to comfortably fit inside of Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai. There are so many things to choose from that I can’t mention them all. So, I highly suggest visiting Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai if you are interested in purchasing unique and interesting gifts and souvenirs while on Kauai.
Outside of Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai There were many people standing around waiting for their table to be ready. I made my way to the front of Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai to put a name on the waiting list for me and my guests. They told me that the wait would be about a half hour until we would be seated. We looked inside each of the many shops inside of Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai, and we also visited the draft horses that live at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai while waiting. I found the draft horses at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai to be beautiful, friendly, and very big. The children outside the Restaurant were fascinated by these gentle giants. I was too! I like horses, and the draft horses at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai are nice to look at and pet before dinner at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai. Children are often impatient, and the horses kept them occupied while waiting for their party to be called to their table. I feel that it is very unique to have draft horses on the property of Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai. They really add something special to your dining experience at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai.
The hostess called us to our table about 40 minutes after we arrived at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai. We were escorted by the very nice and friendly hostess to our table at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai. There were candles glowing from the table which made it very appealing to the eye. The general atmosphere at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai was very relaxing. The lights were dim, soft music was playing in the background, and the table was set nicely with a white fabric tablecloth. I could see that the people around us were enjoying their food, so I was so exited to try some of the food on Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai’s menu. Someone quickly came by after we were seated to fill our glasses with water. Also, they informed us that our waiter would be with us shortly. About 15 minutes passed when our waiter arrived at our table to take our drink order at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai. Two of my guests ordered margaritas, and my other guest ordered a soda. I ordered a drink called a lava flow. This is so good! It is basically a pina colada with a touch of strawberry puree added to it. It didn’t take too long for our drinks to be delivered to our table at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai. But, to my surprise, our waiter was not the one who brought them. The lave flow that I ordered turned out to be quite good. Also, the soda and margaritas that my guests ordered were very good. We all thought about ordering an appetizer, but unfortunately we were unable to find an appetizer that appealed to all of our tastes. So, we skipped that part of our dining experience at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai. Finally our waiter came back to our table to take our orders after another 15 minutes passed. I was pretty hungry, so this kind of upset me. I think that any dining experience can be ruined if the service is not good. Well, I ordered the seafood rhapsody at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai. This consisted of shrimp, scallops, tuna, and lobster tail. Two of my guests ordered ribs and my other guest ordered filet mignon. Also, me and one of my guests ordered French onion soup with mozzarella cheese on top. The French onion soup was brought to our table and placed in front of us at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai. I wanted to dig in, but I would have burned myself very badly because the mozzarella cheese was melted on top of the soup in a 500 degree oven. Well, once the French onion soup at Gaylord’s restaurant on Kauai was cool enough to eat, we did. I can’t say enough about the French onion soup that Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai prepared in such a marvelous way. There were large croutons already in the soup, and it was not too salty. Many places that I have eaten at disappointed me when I tried there version of French onion soup because it was way too salty. I have to say this soup was as close to perfect as you can get. After we had finished our soup, we sat and relaxed while having good conversation while waiting for our entrees to be brought to our table.
Our waiter finally served us approximately 20 minutes after we were finished with our soup at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai. Our waiter and someone else placed the plates of food in front of us and then asked if there was anything else they could get for us. There was something I needed-soda to wash down my delicious looking meal. My plate had two shrimp, two scallops, a piece of fresh tuna, and a small lobster tail that weighed about 4 ounces. My guests said that there ribs were cooked to perfection, and that the sauce that covered them was very delicious. My other guest’s fillet mignon was cooked properly and seasoned nicely. When I tasted my entrée at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai, I was very pleased. The shrimp and the lobster tail were not rubbery, the tuna was perfect, and the scallops were not overdone. This dish didn’t need much seasoning because of how fresh the seafood was. When we were ready for desert, our waiter was nowhere around that we could see at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai. This seemed to be a theme! Our waiter, Mike B., was not very friendly, and, he was not around to get us something if we wanted it. He was rude and inconsiderate when he crumbled up and threw away a paper umbrella that came in my drink at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai. When Mike B. finally came over, three of us ordered desert. One of my gusts ordered Gaylord’s on Kauai’s lilikoi pie, and me and my other guest ordered mud pie. It was terrific. I was very pleased with the deserts we ordered at Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai.
Other than the bad service we received, the food was great. I would definitely go back to Gaylord’s Restaurant on Kauai-as long as we don’t get Mike B. as our waiter.
